| Lonely Planet says 'Yes' to us! | | | | New Zealand Lonely Planet News: McLean Falls Eco Holiday Park is now mentioned along with the Whistling Frog Cafe , in the latest edition of the Lonely Planet, it has also been awarded the coveted ‘Greendex’ status by Lonely Planet, in their recently introduced list of facilities that are actively pursuing environmental goals. Our carbon gathering forest and the recycled buildings are starting to be noticed! Check it out in the back of the new 2009 Lonely Planet guide. According to the guidebook’s co-ordinating author, Charles Rawlings-Way, “For the first time, all the listings in Lonely Planet’s New Zealand guidebook have been evaluated for their sustainability. The best of these have been combined into a ‘GreenDex’ – an index of all the tour, accommodation and eating choices that demonstrate an active sustainable tourism policy. We hope that this, and other similar initiatives, will encourage other operators to see that there’s a clear financial advantage in operating an environmentally-responsible business.” We have refurbished the cafe this winter and the recycled wood floors have been refinished. The grain of the ‘Miro’ floor looks stunning. David, out carpenter, has refinished the bar and re-oiled it. He has just installed a beefy post and rail fence at the entrance to the park to welcome our guests. We have recruited a top pastry chef from Sri Lanka to complement the farm- raised dishes cooked by Khaled, our chef, from the Movenpick Hotel & Restaurant, Dead Sea, Jordan. We are looking forward to hosting many campers and tourists over the spring & summer season. Locals - You are welcome to book your Christmas Party in the heart of the Catlins. Lots of new menu items to tempt you! Tadpole News: The tadpoles are hatching in our creek and the residents of the cafe waterfall pond are doing well, even though the pond iced over on several occasions this winter. Tadpole Television Stars: A lucky group of Whistling Frog Tadpoles were flown to Auckland this winter to feature in a television ad. A desperate call from BBS Ad Agency saw the Whistling Frog Cafe come to the rescue and a co-ordinated effort on behalf of the Pet Planet in Dunedin, saw them safely air-lifted to Auckland for their cameo appearance. They are now some of the most- travelled tadpoles in NZ! More Television News: Check us out on Destination NZ Television: McLean Falls Eco Holiday Park is featured on the popular Destination New Zealand Television Series, currently airing in Australia, on Channel 7. It will be shown on NZ Sky Living Channel on September 13. Then in October will be showing on the Air New Zealand In-flight Service.
